Haiti is a beautiful Caribbean island nation located just an hour’s flight off the coast of Florida. On January 12, 2010, this small nation of about 9 million residents captured world’s attention, when a devastating earthquake left thousands dead and injured, and over 1 million homeless in what can only be described as tragedy upon tragedy.
Haiti’s history is unique and diverse. Following a successful slave revolt in 1804, Haiti gained their independence from France and became the first nation in the world composed of liberated African slaves. Throughout her history, Haiti has experienced countless struggles including centuries of political unrest, violence and corruption, multiple devastating natural disasters, and a daily state of extreme poverty for the vast majority of the population. In spite of all this, her unique and beautiful people continue to be known and loved worldwide for their incredible strength and resilience in the face of challenge.
We believe that it’s a new day for the people of Haiti! It is a time of restoration and laying new foundations. We are honored to come along side them in this season, believing for healing from the past while working toward a beautiful future ahead.
