INTEGRATED COMMUNITY HEALTH INITIATIVE:

Mobilizing local Haitian communities for holistic health and transformation

Things you might have heard…

  • Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. The majority of the nation’s labor force is unemployed. Cholera has swept the nation infecting more than 321,000 people resulting in more than 5,000 deaths in
  • less than a year. Thousands of buildings were destroyed and thousands of people are still displaced due to the earthquake of
  • January 2010. From healthcare to education to local government, every sector of society experienced significant loss.
  • Only 54 percent of Haitians have access to safe water.

Things we believe…

  • Jesus came that we would have life to the full (John 10:10).
  • Humans are incredibly resilient, made in the image of God with enormous capacity and potential. Community is powerful and loaded with resources, wisdom and creativity for change and transformation.
  • God is restoring and strengthening Haitians to restore and strengthen their nation.
  • The whole GOSPEL is reaching the whole PERSON and transforming the whole COMMUNITY.

How?

Sustainable transformation will come through equipping local leaders to envision and strengthen individuals, families and ultimately entire communities towards physical and spiritual health. The Integrated Community Health Initiative will use the structure of CHE (Community Health Evangelism – pronounced “chay”). Through the CHE model whole communities take ownership of the process of change. All over the world, churches have been planted, clean water has become available, sanitation has improved, agriculture has diversified and diseases have been reduced through using this model.

Local Haitian leaders will be equipped and envisioned as trainers. They will lead local committees and community health educators (CHEs) with materials covering a variety of subjects ranging from health, agriculture, finances, life in Christ and relationships that will be used to serve and consistently disciple local families. We are currently raising funds for this initiative.
