As a result of a beautiful collaborative effort of churches, individuals, and organizations, we have had people on the ground since 2010 working to provide shelters and other forms of relief for earthquake victims in a community called Laferoney. Now looking toward long-term development, we have the opportunity to provide free quality Christian education, through a partnership with MissionE4, an NGO who locally administrates schools in Haiti, and through people like you. This is a dream come true for the precious people of Laferoney, who have continually expressed to us that their greatest hope for the future is free education for their children! We have grown to know and love these families personally and are so pleased to be able to come along side them in this way.
Historically free public education has not been provided in Haiti. In a nation where unemployment is well over 60 percent, the high cost of education, books, and uniforms prevents many parents from being able to send their children to school. In Laferoney, six teachers have been working without pay holding classes under a tarp for over a year. Working with community leaders, we have been able to provide temporary structures for their classes and by January 2012 we hope to see the school in full swing.
We are convinced that educating the future generation will open up a world of possibilities for this community and others, we would love to invite you to be a part. We are currently recruiting at least 100 sponsorships for individual students. The $32/month per child provides teacher’s salaries, supplies, books, uniforms, one hot meal a day (maybe the only one many children receive), and free access to the mission clinic for every child in the school.
